The Norwegian Business Association China, together with the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai, is pleased to invite you to an ESG-focused event on "Navigating ESG Compliance: Transparency Act Updates and Supply Chain Due Diligence".
As ESG expectations continue to evolve globally, Norwegian companies with operations, suppliers, or business partners in China are increasingly required to navigate a complex compliance landscape. This includes not only local Chinese regulatory requirements, but also growing expectations from Norway and Europe related to responsible business conduct, transparency, and sustainable supply chain management.
The Norwegian Transparency Act has become an important framework for Norwegian companies to assess, prevent, and communicate how they manage risks related to decent working conditions in their operations and supply chains.
For companies active in China, this may also raise practical questions around how Norwegian transparency and reporting requirements interact with Chinese laws and regulations, particularly in relation to information sharing, supply chain documentation, supplier engagement, and responsible business practices.
This event aims to provide Norwegian companies in China with both legal and practical perspectives on ESG compliance. The discussion will cover the latest developments related to the Norwegian Transparency Act, potential areas of regulatory complexity between Norwegian and Chinese legislation, and practical approaches to supply chain due diligence in the China context. It will also touch upon ESG-related challenges companies may face on the ground, including workplace safety, supplier training, risk assessment, and responsible supply chain management.

Bård Bjerken is a senior lawyer and Shanghai representative at Wikborg Rein, one of Norway’s largest law firms. He is a candidate for re-election to the Board and as Chairman of the association. Over the past three terms, he has actively contributed to the NBA as a board member, including serving as Chairman for the past two terms. Specializing in maritime law and overseeing much of Wikborg Rein's assistance to international clients in China, he brings extensive experience with the issues facing our members. Bård is dual qualified as a Norwegian lawyer and a Solicitor of England & Wales, with experience working in Norway, London and Singapore in addition to over four years in Shanghai.
